Squad How Delightful Can It Be to Dominate the Competition with Fewer People?

This blog is part of a series to find out how well your firm copes with the 6 required drivers, named “EARTHS”, to fully embrace the BIM culture. and get more projects with fewer people.

You certainly have experienced on your various projects that:

  • some energetic teams really collaborate and deliver good results,
  • and some teams just cannot quite work well together.

Teams that work well together do a better job of sharing ideas and embracing all that their technology has to offer.

Motivation and engagement are not just buzzwords.

Their absence has implications on the success of a firm’s workforce, and by extension the firm itself.

  • Teams that are highly engaged result in 21% increased business profitability
  • They are emotionally attached to their workplace and are 59% less likely to churn.
  • Engaged employees perform 20% better
  • Worldwide, only 15% of employees are engaged

Driving Vision believes that

having project team members that fits your culture is the most important criteria for building the right team.

It is fairly easy to learn a piece of software, but changing your personality, not so much.

What characteristics do high performance teams have in common?

  • They Inject Passion and Belief to Succeed
  • They Commit with Courage
  • They Unleash Energy for Action with Focus
  • They Plan with Accuracy and Resolve
  • They Deal with Risks of Failure
  • They Are determined with Tenacity
  • They Build Trust and Teamwork
  • They Celebrate Success and Achievement
  • They Defy the Odds
  • They Set New Standards

Some of the questions you should ask yourself when you assemble a project team:

  • Are all the members of the project team a cultural fit?
  • Do they bring something new to the table?
  • Do they take something off your plate so that you can focus on more important things?
  • Are they self-starters or do they need a lot of direction?
  • Do they have the right skills?
  • Do they have the right tools to perform their tasks and communicate?

In Conclusion

You should develop electronic and activity collaboration procedures. This includes:

  • model management (e.g., model check-out, revision procedures, etc.),
  • and standard meeting actions and agendas.

Collaboration Strategy

  • The team should document how the project team will collaborate in general.
  • When planning, consider items such as communication methods, document management and transfer, and record storage, etc.

Collaboration Activity Procedures

Specific collaboration activities should be defined, which may include:

  • Identify all collaborative activities that support or are supported by BIM
  • Determine which project stage or phase that activity will take place
  • Determine the appropriate frequency for that activity
  • Determine the participants necessary to conduct that activity properly
  • Determine the location for that activity to take place
