Construction 4.0 represents the digitization of the construction industry and encompasses the technologies shown in the picture below.
The industry is currently undergoing significant changes due to automation and digitization. However, construction faces unique challenges compared to other sectors adopting these modern technologies, as it is characterized by bespoke projects and one-off designs, making each building unique.
Implementing construction 4.0
The first step in implementing Construction 4.0 is to identify repetitive and hazardous tasks and automate common processes within the industry. Next, evaluate which technologies are essential for your workflows.
Should your organization transition to cloud computing? Or perhaps you are eager to explore new opportunities for daily planning tasks and ensure data remains secure in an optimally protected data center.
Digitalization enhances the quality and sustainability of your projects.
Business Case
One of our clients, a midsize construction company, relied heavily on manual processes involving Excel and Word.
The Brief
They utilized an internal drive and a separate cloud-based system for documentation. However, due to the lack of integration between these two systems, teams often had to duplicate their efforts by saving documents in both locations. Access to these systems was limited, which made collaboration cumbersome and time-consuming. Without a single repository for information, their projects suffered from a lack of standardization.
Site managers frequently labeled and stored documents in their own manner, complicating quick access to information and making audits of company procedures laborious. Additionally, they did not view plans on their mobile devices.
After an Integrated Cloud Solution was implemented
Post-implementation, team members no longer spend their days on administrative tasks like saving, printing, and emailing documents. Instead, they focused on more critical aspects of a project, such as quality and safety. By leveraging mobile functionality and the power of cloud desktops, office-based teams could view, update, and share documents (including plans) with the site, eliminating unnecessary trips to the office.
The Risk and Compliance Manager Stated:
"Site managers may gain two to three hours every day. They are now free to concentrate on the core deliverables of our projects, which are quality and safety."
