Construction Manager is one of the leading news sites for the building industry. In a survey conducted with BIM+, they concluded that a lack of digital skills within the industry has been responsible for a slower uptake of BIM in some sectors.
This survey was compiled before the onset of COVID-19 and the embracing of remote working, video conferencing, and collaborative technologies that have resulted from the closure of offices. The learning curve for some businesses and individuals has been very steep during the crisis and BIM uptake has increased as meetings in the “real world” have ceased. There are a couple of areas that were already showing signs of growth before the coronavirus.
The largest of these is the use of tablets and smartphones as on-site aids for working collaboratively and for the interpretation of drawings and other design materials.
Driving Vision has several specialties that can assist: the use of virtual reality to provide 3D visualizations of site concepts and plans; and virtual desktops allowing your team to access high-powered graphics machines from anywhere on any device.
The above has become particularly useful in working through the requirements of Social Distancing as sites return to work.
Further evidence that the pandemic has driven businesses towards technology came at a webinar discussion hosted by Building Magazine.
Technology experts are optimistic that the sector’s responsive adaptations could drive long-term improvement.
